We are thrilled for the international launch of the Advanced Stroke Life Support® Blended Learning program, realized in partnership with the American Heart Association (AHA). The inaugural instructor course was successfully conducted in Dubai.

This monumental event, led by our center assistant director, Dr. Ivette Motola, along with Dr. Jose Ferrer, Director, International Health at the AHA, saw participation from instructors and providers representing 22 countries, fostering a global network committed to the enhancement of stroke care. We extend our gratitude to our gracious hosts – the Dubai Health Authority and AHA MENA Team. Special acknowledgement goes to our dedicated faculty and instructor candidates, whose steadfast support contributed immensely to this event’s success.

The Gordon Center in India

As pioneers in the field of healthcare education and simulation, our Gordon Center Director, Dr. Barry Issenberg, joined forces with esteemed colleagues Drs. Scalese, Misra, and Groom on an enriching visit to India. Their mission was to deepen our collaborations with the nation’s premier medical institutions.

With a commitment to ensuring that simulation-based healthcare training is accessible to students and providers, the team engaged in productive dialogues with members of parliament and healthcare leaders from various educational institutions. Their discussions centered around expansion of India’s simulation programs, reflecting our shared dedication to advancing healthcare. The Gordon Center team also led Advanced Stroke Life Support® Blended Learning and Improving Simulation Instructional Methods (iSIM) courses.

Conferences and Collaborations

Gordon Center India

Continuing our active involvement in national and international conferences and industry gatherings, the Gordon Center never misses an opportunity to showcase our expertise in simulation-based education. At the recently held eMerge Americas 2023 conference, we highlighted the robust capabilities of our Harvey® system to University of Miami President Julio Frenk. Our demonstrations underscored the important role of technology integration in elevating learning experiences within healthcare. At the American College of Physicians 2023 Internal Medicine Meeting, our faculty, led by Dr. Ross Scalese, facilitated clinical skills workshops utilizing Harvey®. These interactive sessions provided participants with valuable knowledge and skill practice on differentiating serious from benign heart murmurs. Moreover, our presence at the Association of Standardized Patient Educators annual conference did not go unnoticed. Our groundbreaking research on the impact of standardized patients in training emergency professionals earned us a runner-up award.

Training Florida’s Finest First Responders

At the Gordon Center, our Active Shooter training course distinguishes itself through a collaborative approach that leverages the expertise of law enforcement, fire rescue, EMS, and military personnel. Prioritizing early intervention, we weave fire rescue operations with law enforcement actions to facilitate life-saving care in these challenging events. Our use of realistic scenarios coupled with standardized patients heightens performance, bolsters skill retention, and enhances patient outcomes.

Additionally, our Advanced Airway Management training, directed by Dr. Ivette Motola and Al Brotons, hones the necessary skills for evaluating and managing patients experiencing airway emergencies and respiratory distress. Emphasizing practical techniques like airway monitoring, bag-mask ventilation, and intubation, this training further strengthens prehospital care and positively influences patient outcomes.

Emergency Response to Trauma & BLS with University of Miami Students

Congratulations to the University of Miami students who completed Emergency Response to Trauma and Basic Life Support (BLS) courses at the Gordon Center. The Emergency Response to Trauma training effectively develops skills for providing prompt care under high-pressure situations, thereby augmenting critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities. BLS training is an equally vital course, equipping students with the necessary knowledge and skills to recognize life-threatening emergencies. It provides them with the techniques to perform effective chest compressions, and when necessary, to administer electrical therapy through the timely use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
